Learn the art of Kumihimo, an intriguing tradition with practical, decorative &artistic functions. And a handy skill to have up your sleeve.

Kumihimo WorkshopYou will learn to make 4 round braids using two colours.Technique is named YOTSU GUMIThe braids will have 4 cords. You will be able to try working with 8 cords as well.If time permits you will learn a second technique, called YATSO GUMI. It is used to make round braids also. There are 5 Variations for that.All materials are supplied and the workshop includes a Kumihimo wheel of your own to keep.The tradition dates back to the 8th Century. It has reached the most refinement in Japan. The multitude of braids from history are analysed by scholars today.The Warnertown Arts Now Here venue has parking, coffee and tea making and comfort facilities.
